Mental Health Awareness Week #SpeakYourMind

18th May 2020

This week is Mental Health Awareness week, and during this time of COVID-19, good mental health seems especially important. With so many of us in lockdown, or with restricted movement, we may be feeling stresses and strains more than normal. We may be separated from our loved ones, insecure about what the future holds, or affected economically and emotionally, all of which can put a huge toll on our mental wellbeing.

TackleAfrica would like to join our friends at MIND, the Mental Health Charity, in celebrating Mental Health Awareness Week, and share some information that might be useful for you, or people you know.
Some tips from our friends at MIND https://www.mind.org.uk/get-involved/mental-health-awareness-week/

At this time, here at TackleAfrica, we’re focussing on maintaining a channel of trusted communication with all our coaches. We ask, if you’re in a position to do so, to reach out to your players and your community to put your voice out there. It can be something small – passing on some information, sending a short message of positivity, or sharing something funny – but it has a serious purpose. Just one message can minimise the feeling of isolation, both for yourself and the recipient.

Coaches, like Etienne from Grand-Bassam in Cote d’Ivoire, are the link to the communities in which we work. Players look up to and trust their coaches, and as such can turn to them for support during mentally challenging times such as these.

With physical distancing in place in many countries, more communication than ever is going online. And although we are not on the ground delivering football sessions to connect with our players, we are definitely here online.

This week, and all weeks, we’re encouraging everyone: #SpeakYourMind
